Alex Dee - Helluvalova

It was about time to write about some of my favorite artists based in my region, so let me introduce you to Alex Dee

He is one of the most talented singers and his track “Helluvalova” is an irreverent and genuine exhibition of self-expression and unrestricted creativity

Besides the excellent musicianship, what really stands out on this track is how it transpires, and even makes palpable, the sensation of witnessing musicians purely having a good time and enjoying themselves in the service of art, completely free from the pressure and limits that the industry often imposes.

Considering Alex’s skills and charisma, it is not surprising that he’s surrounded by some of my favorite musicians and producers from the area: Kquimi Saigi, Arnau Figueres and Tacho, to name a few who had a role in this particular track.

Sadly, black music has a relatively low popularity in my region/country. One of the symptoms is that I often need to travel abroad to see some of my favorite artists touring in Europe. But this track is one of the many evidences that it has nothing to do with the quality in the scene, as we have amazing and internationally recognized talent here.

So help me spread the word so this authentic gem doesn’t stay hidden anymore!

PS: By the way, if you listen attentively to “Helluvalova”, you might notice some nods to D’Angelo, Al Green and Prince. I’ll let you find them yourself!

PPS: If you want to discover some other talents based in my region before I dedicate more entries to them, there’s a playlist called “Música Moderna des de Catalunya” featuring some of my favorites. Open to suggestions!
